Angelica Root is also known as Masterwort, Ground Ash, Holy Ghost Root, Archangel Root, Dong Quai, and Root of the Holy Ghost. It is believed that the plant's name was derived from the fact that, according to the old calendar, it usually came into bloom around the feast day of the Archangel Michael, who appeared in a vision to explain the plant's protective powers against evil.
Magickal attributes are protection and exorcism. It is said to protect against negative energy and attracts positive energy. Use in healing & exorcism incenses and scatter for purification, protection, and uncrossing. Add to incense to promote healing or to the bath to remove curses, hexes, or spells. Also thought to promote temperance.
The Iroquois would infuse hot water with angelica root and, once cool, sprinkle on an area to clear out any unwanted spirits.
