Ceremonial Drums have been used for centuries by ancient man and indigenous peoples around the world for ceremonial and religious purposes. These ceremonies often include singing or chanting to the rhythm of the drum beats, which can induce a hypnotic or trance like state allowing for altered states of consciousness.
Our hand painted Ceremonial drums start with a 16" Remo Buffalo drum, known for their quality. These drums use synthetic materials vs. real hide and they will not stretch or lose their sound if used in a humid environment like a ceremonial sweat lodge. Obviously this is a musical instrument and should be cared for as such. We do not recommend exposing them to harsh environments.
Our Great White Buffalo drum pays tribute to the story of "The Peaceful One", a lesson believed to be over 2000 years old of the White Buffalo Calf, the most sacred living thing on earth by the Lakota and other Great Plains tribes. Above the buffalo is the Eye of the Medicine Man, a geometric portrayal of the Four Corners of the Universe and the inner and outer worlds. The Sun symbol represents healing, energy and is the giver of life, it is considered the Earth's guardian. The Feather is one of the most respected symbols and can be found in most every Native American tribe, it represents the highest of honor, wisdom, trust, courage and freedom. This design is one of a kind and will not be available again.
The Medicine Wheel, sometimes known as the Sacred Hoop, is perhaps the most recognized and powerful symbol in Native American culture. It represents the four elements, the four seasons, the continuous cycle of life and how they relate to each other. Each corner and color has different meanings and different animal spirit guides, far too much to do justice here. If the Medicine Wheel is calling to you, you may wish to learn more on what many consider the greatest introspection tool ever made.
