Libyan Desert Glass (LDG) is a natural glass made of silica (silicon dioxide) with coloring ranging from transparent-to-translucent, clear-to-opaque white or yellow-to-green in color. LDG has been dated to be over 28,000 years old and has been known by the Egyptians for thousands of years. One of King Tut's funeral necklaces included a beautiful carving of a scarab made out of this desert glass.
They are only found in one place on Earth, known as ‘The Great Sand Sea’, one of the most inhospitable places you can imagine between Egypt and Libya. There is great debate over how LDG came to be, many believe it is remnant of a meteor that smashed into the area releasing atomic-bomb equivalent energy and fused the sand into the glass-like material it is.
This is a very pure natural glass, and in some pieces you will find actual sand from the Sahara Desert embedded in them. This is one of the ways you can tell that it is a true Libyan Desert Glass.
Like other Tektites such as Moldavite, they have a very noticeable strange and ‘other-worldly’ vibration to them. They seem to hold a portion of the initial energy explosion within. It is said to hold the vibration of the Golden Ray, and resonates with the Solar Plexus Chakra. These stones are thought to be helpful with the Ascension process and Spiritual growth.
LDG is said to guard you against any negative psychic energy being deposited in the solar plexus region of your body. This is a helpful stone for those who feel that they do not belong on this earth, and who feel they may originate from elsewhere in the universe. It is also recognized as powerful manifestation tool.
