Triple Moon Altar Candle
The second is an understanding that a woman's life generally occurs in three main phases. The crescent on the left side of the symbol represents the 'waxing' of the moon, when it appears to grow in size and brightness. This corresponds to the Maiden phase of womanhood, when a woman's life is characterized by youth, purity, innocence, beginnings, excitement, and enchantment. At the center of the symbol is the full moon, when the moon is at its brightest and largest. This represents the Mother phase, a time of fulfillment, fertility, ripeness, potency, caring, nurturing, protection and giving. And the crescent on the right side stands for the 'waning' of the moon, when it diminishes in size and brightness. This is the Crone phase of a woman's life, a time of repose, maturity, wisdom, experience, understanding and, in the end, death.
